More than 2.6million children in the U.S. are treated in emergency departments each year for sports injuries. Follow these tips to help your child avoid being one of them. Call your child’s doctor Dress your child in the right gear for the right sport. Encourage your child to warmup and cool down properly. Warm-up exercises foster flexibility. Cool downs loosenmuscles made tight by exercise. Be sure water or sports drinks are available during play. Make sunscreen the rule for outdoor play. Is it hot out? Dress your child in light, breathable clothes. Find out if your child’s coach is trained in first aid and CPR. to set up a preseason physical exam.
